Dangerous Goods Courier Manchester
ADR Direct is a specialist dangerous goods courier covering all nine ADR classes, same day, nationwide. We are based in Milnrow, two minutes off the M62. The M60 puts the whole of Greater Manchester within reach, straight across for Trafford Park and Carrington, straight down the M56 for the airport. No depots, no transfers, no handovers.
Where we collect across Greater Manchester
Trafford Park is the biggest employment area in Greater Manchester, with more than 1,300 businesses and 35,000 people working there, including chemical manufacture and distribution across the estate. Irlam sits on the other side of the ship canal, where the old steelworks land is now Northbank Industrial Estate, with chemical distribution and manufacturing among the businesses on it. We collect from both, along with the city centre, Salford, Stockport, Oldham and the rest of Greater Manchester.
All nine classes
We carry packaged dangerous goods across all nine ADR classes, a single box or a full van load up to 1,050 kg, on a dedicated vehicle either way. All drivers hold ADR driver training certificates covering all nine classes, including the specialisation training courses for Class 1 explosives and Class 7 radioactive. Manchester Airport and the freight forwarders
Manchester Airport holds the largest concentration of freight forwarders outside London. The World Freight Terminal sits at Junction 6 of the M56, home to around fifty forwarding firms and handling agents, with roughly a hundred logistics businesses on and around the site. We work it in both directions, collecting from forwarders for onward movement by road, and delivering in for onward flights.
Routing dangerous goods out of Greater Manchester
There are no ADR restricted tunnels in Greater Manchester. Ten tunnels in Great Britain carry an ADR category and none of them is here, so a load moving inside Greater Manchester is not tunnel restricted. It matters as soon as you leave. The Mersey Tunnels are Category D, which stops Class 1 Divisions 1.1, 1.2 and 1.5 but not Division 1.4, along with a range of goods in other classes. Dartford is Category C. On a mixed load the most restrictive code on board applies to the whole vehicle, so it gets worked out before the vehicle moves rather than at the tunnel mouth.
The compliance behind it
A Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser is appointed under ADR Chapter 1.8.3, and a Radiation Protection Adviser for Class 7. We are registered with the HSE under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017. Class 1 movements run under a written Transport Security Plan, on an EX/II approved vehicle. FORS Champion accredited and an RHA member. All vehicles live GPS tracked, collection to delivery.
