Dangerous Goods Courier Sheffield
ADR Direct is a specialist dangerous goods courier covering all nine ADR classes, same day, nationwide. We are based in Milnrow, on the M62 at Rochdale. Sheffield is the M62 east and the M1 south, Junction 34 for the Lower Don Valley, Junction 33 for the Parkway and the Advanced Manufacturing Park, and the M18 off Junction 32 for Doncaster. Where we collect across South Yorkshire
The Lower Don Valley, Attercliffe out to Tinsley, was the heart of Sheffield steel through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and is still manufacturing ground, running under the Tinsley Viaduct at Junction 34 and on to Rotherham. Barnsley is off Junctions 36 and 37, Doncaster is down the M18. We collect across all of it, and from the universities and the city centre.
All nine classes
Packaged dangerous goods in every class from 1 to 9, one drum or a full load up to 1,050 kg, and the vehicle is yours for the job either way. Around Sheffield that is metal powders, pickling and etching acids, cylinder gases, quench oils, coolants and solvents, and lithium batteries and cells. All drivers hold ADR driver training certificates for all nine classes, including the specialisation training for Class 1 explosives and Class 7 radioactive. Sheffield steel
Sheffield has been making stainless steel since 1913, and the heavy forge on Brightside Lane, owned by the Ministry of Defence since 2021, still makes large forgings and castings for submarines and warships. Finishing steel takes acid. Pickling lines run on hydrochloric or sulphuric acid, and stainless is finished in nitric and hydrofluoric. All of that is Class 8 on the way in, and the spent acid is Class 8 waste on the way out, with the oxygen, argon and acetylene for cutting and welding alongside. We are equipped to carry all of it, drums, IBCs and cylinders, on a dedicated vehicle with one driver from collection to delivery.
The Advanced Manufacturing Park
The Advanced Manufacturing Park at Waverley sits straight off Junction 33, 150 acres on reclaimed opencast coal land, built around the University of Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and the Nuclear AMRC next to it. The 3D printing of metal parts there runs on metal powder, and titanium and aluminium powders are Class 4 dangerous goods. Dry titanium powder is UN 2546, Class 4.2, and can catch fire on its own. Aluminium powder is Class 4.1 coated and Class 4.3 uncoated, because uncoated it gives off flammable gas when it gets wet. It travels in UN approved packaging on a dedicated vehicle, and we carry it.
The compliance behind it
A Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser is appointed under ADR Chapter 1.8.3, and a Radiation Protection Adviser for Class 7. We are registered with the HSE under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017. Class 1 movements run under a written Transport Security Plan, on an EX/II approved vehicle. FORS Champion accredited and an RHA member. All vehicles live GPS tracked, collection to delivery. DfT Inspected: Fully Compliant. Every compliance claim on this page is backed by certificates on file, available on request.
