Dangerous Goods Courier Liverpool
ADR Direct is a specialist dangerous goods courier covering all nine ADR classes, same day, nationwide. We are based in Milnrow, on the M62 at Rochdale. The M62 runs straight west and ends in Liverpool, with the M57 and M58 for Knowsley, Kirkby and Bootle, and the Knowsley Expressway down to Speke and the airport. No depots, no transfers, no handovers.
Where we collect across Merseyside
Knowsley Business Park carries over 800 businesses with 18,000 people working on it. South of the city, Speke is a pharmaceutical and bioprocessing cluster, which is where the laboratory and pharmaceutical work comes from. There is more industrial ground at Bootle and Sefton, across the water on the Wirral, and out at St Helens. We collect from all of it, and from Liverpool city centre.
All nine classes
We carry packaged dangerous goods across all nine ADR classes, a single box or a full van load up to 1,050 kg, on a dedicated vehicle either way. Across Merseyside that means solvents and reagents, corrosives, paints and adhesives, compressed and refrigerated gases, and lithium batteries and cells. All drivers hold ADR driver training certificates covering all nine classes, including the specialisation training courses for Class 1 explosives and Class 7 radioactive. The Port of Liverpool
The port sits on both banks of the Mersey and handles containers, roll on roll off, project cargo, dry and liquid bulks, metals and energy products. There are two container terminals, Royal Seaforth and Liverpool2, and the Manchester Ship Canal carries traffic inland from there. Goods arriving by sea travel under the IMDG Code, and the road leg out runs under ADR. The IMDG transport document can carry the road leg under ADR 1.1.4.2.3, provided any additional information ADR requires is on it, so the paperwork gets checked before the vehicle moves rather than at the gate. We collect from the port estate and go straight out on one vehicle, and we deliver into it against a vessel cut-off for the sailing.
The Mersey Tunnels
The Queensway tunnel to Birkenhead and the Kingsway tunnel to Wallasey are both ADR tunnel category D. ADR 1.9.5.2.2 defines that as a "Restriction for the carriage of dangerous goods which may lead to a very large explosion, to a large explosion, to a large toxic release or to a large fire". A driver carrying dangerous goods has to stop at the Police Declaration point before entering and declare the load. Large loads of packaged goods under tunnel codes B/E, C/E and D/E need an escort through. Failing to declare is a breach of the tunnel byelaws.
That decides the route before the vehicle leaves, not at the tunnel mouth. Some loads go under the river on a declaration, some need the escort arranged first, and some go round by the Mersey Gateway at Runcorn or down the M56 to the M53. The compliance behind it
A Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser is appointed under ADR Chapter 1.8.3, and a Radiation Protection Adviser for Class 7. We are registered with the HSE under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017. Class 1 movements run under a written Transport Security Plan, on an EX/II approved vehicle. FORS Champion accredited and an RHA member. All vehicles live GPS tracked, collection to delivery.
